Dante Benini uses Antolini stone to clad the interior of ​​Perini Navi yacht

Promotion: Milanese architect Dante Benini chose Antolini stone to clad the living spaces of a 60-metre yacht created by Italian ship manufacturer Perini Navi.

Antolini's White Onyx lines the living areas of a luxury yacht designed by Benini in order to elevate the living spaces aboard the S/Y Seven yacht.

The light-coloured crystalline stone is intended to complement the wood, leather and cowhide of the interiors with rich, dense surfaces – chosen especially by Benini for its texture and meaning.

"For this boat, the selection of the materials and attention to detail have played a decisive role in the formulation of a unique, elegant and timeless product, which I hope will be able to represent what we admire today in the great sailing ships of the past, even 50 years from now," said Benini.

Unlike sprawling residential projects, the economic nature of yacht design means that every surface and material choice matters, so the implementation of stone requires skillful application.

Benini worked with the yacht builders to apply the Antolini stone to a variety of surfaces throughout the cabin.

Because of its texture and solidness, the stone was applied to facings on walls and flooring, as well as in decor accents on faucets and seating.

The stone was also installed in strips that accent surfaces and in many places it was backlit to demonstrate the luminosity of the material.

The result is a functional and artistic element to the design distilled by the architect to create a unique design scheme for the yacht.

"The presence of Antolini natural stone, skillfully crafted and installed, juxtaposed with wood, leather and cowhide, has the power – also in tactile terms – to convey the passion of all the players involved in the making of a yacht capable of elevating the human spirit, both for those who live on the boat and those who observe it," said the architect.

The stone unifies the interior of the ship and most striking is the curved stone panels that accentuate the desks and seating in the primary bedroom.

The presence of the backlight allows the stone to stand out in the daytime and in low light, and to define the minimal curves of the built-in furniture.
